Intermediate Shaft Warning Signs

When drivers complain about vibration, noise, or shudder under load, the CV axle often takes the blame. It’s a logical assumption after all; CV axles are among the most common wear components in the driveline. But sometimes the real issue lies deeper: the intermediate shaft.

Common signs include:

  1. Noise when driving straight which often points to the intermediate shaft or shaft bearing.
  2. Vibration underload often points to a worn Intermediate shaft.

If multiple CV axle replacements haven’t solved the problem, it’s time to look closer at the intermediate shaft. Wear or failure in this unit can cause vibration, noise, and even premature axle wear.
